Modern A-Line Sequin Wedding Dress by Myline's Bridal in Greensboro, NC

Protect Your Memories. Preserve Your Gown. Cherish It Forever.

Your wedding day flew by in what felt like minutes. The dress? That’s forever.

I’m Myline, and I’ve been caring for wedding gowns for over 20 years here in Greensboro. I’ve seen what happens to dresses that aren’t properly preserved (heartbreaking yellowing, fabric deterioration, stains that set permanently), and I’ve helped hundreds of brides protect their gowns so they stay as beautiful as the day they wore them.

Let me help you preserve yours.

    Why Wedding Dress Preservation Matters

“Can’t I just hang it in my closet?”

I get this question all the time, and I understand – after spending thousands on your dress and alterations, preservation feels like one more expense. But here’s what most brides don’t realize:

What Happens to Unpresented Wedding Dresses

    Within 6-12 months:

    • Invisible stains (champagne, sweat, perfume, makeup) start oxidizing and turning yellow or brown
    • Fabric begins breaking down from exposure to air, light, and humidity
    • Delicate details like beading threads can weaken and fall off
    • Moths and insects are attracted to natural fibers and body oils

    Within 2-5 years:

    • Yellowing becomes permanent and impossible to remove
    • Fabric can become brittle and tear easily
    • Stains are set so deeply they’re irreversible
    • The dress may be beyond saving

    Rush Service Available:

The heartbreaking truth: I’ve had mothers bring me their wedding dresses to show their daughters, only to discover the gown has yellowed, stained, or deteriorated beyond repair. The look on their faces when they realize it’s too late? It breaks my heart every time.

    What Proper Preservation Does

    What Proper Preservation Does

    Immediately after your wedding:

    • Professional cleaning removes ALL stains, including invisible ones
    • Acid-free materials prevent yellowing and fabric breakdown
    • Museum-quality packaging protects from light, air, moisture, and pests
    • Your dress stays pristine for 50+ years (even longer with proper storage)

The beautiful reality: I’ve opened preservation boxes from the 1970s and 1980s where the dress looks like it was worn yesterday. That’s what proper preservation can do.

    My Wedding Dress Preservation Process

    Detailed Inspection

    (What I Look For)

When you bring me your dress, I examine every inch:

    Bring to this fitting:

    • Visible stains: Makeup, dirt, wine, grass, food
    • Invisible stains: Champagne, clear soda, sweat, perfume (these are the sneaky ones that yellow later!)
    • Damage: Tears, loose beading, popped seams, missing buttons
    • Special concerns: Delicate vintage fabrics, heavy embellishments, unique materials

‘ll show you exactly what I find and explain what can be cleaned, what needs repair, and what to expect.

    Expert Cleaning & Stain Treatment

This isn’t throwing your dress in a machine. This is careful, professional treatment:

    • Hand-cleaning delicate areas like beading, lace, and appliqués
    • Treating specific stains with appropriate solutions (different stains need different treatments)
    • Gentle pressing to remove wrinkles without damaging fabric
    • Multiple cleaning passes if needed to ensure perfection
    • Special care for vintage fabrics that require extra-gentle handling

    What I DON’T use:

    • Harsh chemicals that can yellow fabric over time
    • Heat that can set stains permanently
    • Rough handling that can damage delicate details

    Repair & Restoration

    (If Needed)

While I have your dress, I’ll repair:

    • Loose or missing beads and sequins
    • Small tears or snags
    • Popped seams from dancing
    • Bustle loops that came loose
    • Any other wear and tear from your wedding day

These repairs are included in your preservation cost – no extra charge for minor fixes!

    Museum-Quality Preservation Packaging

Your dress is carefully prepared for long-term storage:

    • Acid-free tissue paper wrapped around and between folds to prevent creasing
    • Acid-free preservation box (never plastic! Plastic traps moisture and causes yellowing)
    • Clear viewing window so you can see your dress without opening the box
    • Proper folding technique that prevents permanent creases
    • Silica packets to control moisture (replaced periodically)
    • Photo sleeve on the box to display your favorite wedding photo

The box is beautiful enough to display in your home, closet, or under your bed. Many brides
keep it somewhere visible as a sweet reminder of their day.

    Storage & Care Instructions

I’ll give you detailed instructions on:

    Bring to this fitting:

    • Where to store your dress (cool, dry, dark place – NOT attics or basements!)
    • How to check on it periodically
    • What temperature and humidity levels are ideal
    • When to consider re-preservation (if stored improperly or opened frequently)

    Wedding Dress Preservation Pricing

    $250 – $500 depending on your dress

    What affects the price:

    Standard preservation ($350-$425):

    ● More complex construction (fitted bodices, layers)
    ● Moderate beading or lace appliqués
    ● Some staining that requires extra treatment
    ● Mixed fabrics or delicate materials

    Premium preservation ($425-$500+):

    ● Heavily beaded or embellished gowns
    ● Extensive staining (grass, wine, mud from outdoor weddings)
    ● Vintage or delicate antique fabrics

When Should You Preserve Your Wedding Dress?

The sooner, the better – ideally within 2-4 weeks after your wedding.

    Here’s why timing matters:

Immediately After Your Wedding (Within 1 Week)

Best case scenario! Stains are fresh and easiest to remove. Nothing has oxidized or set yet. If you can get your dress to me within a few days, we have the best chance of perfect preservation.

    Within 2-4 Weeks (Ideal Window)

Still excellent! Most stains are still treatable, fabric hasn’t started deteriorating. This is the timeframe most brides aim for, and it works beautifully.

    Within 2-3 Months (Getting Risky)

Still possible, but harder. Some stains may have started to set. Invisible stains (champagne, clear soda, sweat) are beginning to oxidize. The sooner you bring it in, the better the results.

6 Months to 1 Year (Challenging)

Now we’re in rescue mode. Yellowing may have started. Some stains might be permanent. I’ll do my absolute best, but I have to be honest – some damage may be irreversible at this point.

Over 1 Year (Often Too Late)

This breaks my heart. Many dresses that come to me after a year have yellowing, permanent stains, or fabric damage that can’t be fully reversed. I’ll always try, but you may need to have realistic expectations.

Real talk from 20 years of doing this: Every single bride who waited too long tells me “I wish
I’d done this right after the wedding.” Don’t be that bride. Get it done while you’re still riding the
    wedding high!

    Special Preservation Services

Vintage & Heirloom Dress Restoration + Preservation

Do you have your mother’s or grandmother’s wedding dress that was never preserved? I can
    help!

    What I can do:

    ● Assess the condition honestly (some damage may be too far gone)
    ● Remove yellowing in many cases (not always 100%, but significant improvement)
    ● Repair deteriorated fabrics and seams
    ● Re-clean and properly preserve for the future
    ● Prepare it for wearing again if that’s your dream

    What you should know:

    ● Older damage is harder (sometimes impossible) to reverse completely
    ● Very old fabrics may be too fragile to clean aggressively
    ● I’ll always be honest about what’s possible vs. what’s not
    ● Even partial restoration is better than continued deterioration

    Investment:

$400-$750+ depending on condition (includes restoration + preservation)

    Second Preservation

    (If You’ve Opened Your Box)

Already had your dress preserved but opened the box to show someone? No judgment! But you
    should consider re-preservation if:

    ● The box has been open for more than a few hours
    ● The dress was removed from the tissue wrapping
    ● It’s been several years since original preservation
    ● Storage conditions weren’t ideal (attic, basement, garage)

    Investment:

$200-$300 (less than full preservation since dress is already cleaned)

    Questions Brides Ask About Me

Q: Is preservation really necessary? It seems expensive.

I get it – after the wedding bills, one more expense feels like a lot. But think of it this way: you spent $2,000-$5,000+ on your dress. Preservation costs 5-10% of that to protect your investment for 50+ years. That’s about $5-10 per year of protection. Worth it? I think so. But ultimately, it’s your choice.

Q: What if I’m never going to wear it again or pass it down?

That’s okay! Many brides preserve their dress simply for sentimental value. Years from now, you might want to show your kids, look at it on anniversaries, or just know it’s there as a beautiful memory. Even if you never open the box, there’s something special about knowing it’s preserved.

Q: Can I preserve my dress myself with a kit I bought online?

Technically yes, but I strongly advise against it. DIY kits don’t include professional cleaning (the most important part!), the materials are often not truly acid-free, and improper preservation can actually cause MORE damage than no preservation at all. This is one area where professional expertise really matters.

Q: What if my dress has a huge stain I’m embarrassed about?

Friend, I have seen EVERYTHING. Wine, mud, grass, blood, food, you name it. I don’t judge – I just clean! Most brides have some kind of staining from celebrating their wedding day. That’s what makes the memories! Let me take care of it.

Q: How long will my dress really stay preserved?

With proper storage (cool, dry, dark place), professionally preserved dresses can last 50-100+ years. I’ve opened boxes from the 1960s and 1970s where the dress looks brand new. The key is proper preservation AND proper storage after.

Q: Can I look at my dress after it’s preserved?

The viewing window lets you see your dress without compromising the preservation. If you want to fully remove it, you can – but you’ll need to have it re-preserved afterward to maintain protection. Most brides find the viewing window is enough!

Q: My dress has a colored sash/belt. Will that affect preservation?

Non-white elements need special care to prevent color bleeding. I handle this all the time! I’ll either preserve them separately or use special barriers to prevent any color transfer. Your dress will be safe.

Q: What happens if my house floods or there’s a fire?

While preservation protects against normal aging and deterioration, it can’t protect against major disasters. I recommend storing your dress somewhere safe (not the basement or attic) and considering adding it to your home insurance policy as a valuable item.

Preservation vs. Restoration: What’s the Difference?

Preservation = Protecting your dress AFTER your wedding

    ● Professional cleaning
    ● Proper packaging
    ● Long-term storage protection
    ● For dresses in good condition

Restoration = Fixing damage that’s already happened

    ● Removing yellowing from old dresses
    ● Repairing deteriorated fabrics
    ● Treating set-in stains from years of improper storage
    ● Bringing old dresses back to life

Both are important! Preservation prevents the need for restoration. Restoration makes preservation possible for older dresses.
My recommendation: Preserve your dress within weeks of your wedding, and you’ll never need restoration!

A Personal Note About Wedding Dress Preservation

I’ve been preserving wedding dresses for over 20 years, and I’ve learned something important: your wedding dress holds so much more than just fabric and thread.

It holds the memory of how you felt when you first put it on and knew it was “the one.” The moment your partner’s face lit up when they saw you. The way your dad hugged you before walking you down the aisle. Every dance, every laugh, every happy tear.

Years from now – whether you pass it down to your daughter, show it to your grandchildren, or simply keep it as a treasured memory – you’ll be so grateful you took the time to preserve it properly.

I’ve seen mothers open preservation boxes decades later and immediately transport back to their wedding day. I’ve watched daughters try on their mother’s perfectly preserved gowns and feel connected to family history. I’ve witnessed brides open their boxes on anniversaries just to remember.

These moments are why I do this work. Your dress deserves to be protected, and I’d be honored to be the one who preserves it for you.
